Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Driving With a Suspended License in South Florida

|

Your driver’s license can be suspended for many reasons including being convicted of a DUI, refusing to take a breath test, driving without proper insurance, not paying traffic tickets timely, giving fraudulent information to the department of motor vehicles, and getting too many points on your driving record in a short period of time.  Driving with a suspended or revoked license in the State of Florida is a crime.  It is not a civil infraction.  Driving with a suspended driver’s license can either be a misdemeanor or a felony depending on whether you are a first offender or if you have multiple violations.   If you are charged with a misdemeanor, it is a crime that can be punishable up to 60 days in jail.  Third time offenders can be charged with a felony and can receive up to five years in prison.

If your driver’s license has been suspended or revoked there are many options available to you to get your driving privilege reinstated. First you can apply for a hardship license which will allow you to drive under very limited circumstances.  You will be permitted to drive to and from work and for the performance of basic household duties.  Also, you can have your license reinstated by seeking a court order to modify your traffic record. Or you can pay all of the court costs due and owing and also get your license reinstated.

If you are charged with driving on a suspended license it is imperative that you get your license reinstated as soon as possible either by clearing points off your record or paying money that is due and owing to the court.  Contact an experienced criminal defense attorney that will help you get your license reinstated and defend your case in court so that you don’t face further penalties if you are caught driving.
